Friends and Politics

Recently, I lost a friend over a heated political argument. We were both arguing about the Wet’suwet’en protest: I was arguing that they had every right to resist the Coastal GasLink pipeline, while he argued the opposite. I thought our debate was fairly cordial and respectful: there was no name-calling or unnecessary insults. A few days later, I learned that he deleted me off of social media with no further explanation. I wasn’t necessarily hurt- more flabbergasted.
